Larian's Swen "Lar" Vincke has been interviewed at Player of Games about Riftrunner, their upcoming RPG set in the Divine Divinity universe. Here's a snip:My last question for you is this, is there any direction that would like to take the RPG genre towards, more cinematic, advanced AI etc and may we be seeing future games from Larian leaning that direction?
Divine Divinity was an overall RPG package. It’s difficult to single out particular features we would like to introduce or improve upon because a conscious effort was placed on creating what we termed the “Total RPG experience”, i.e. focusing on the actual features RPG players need to make it a true experience. Collectively, they included a strong and believable storyline, immersive dialogues, and the high interaction with NPCs, enemies and the majority of objects within the universe. Then we come to elements like the open-ended character development system, the flexible combat system, and a huge amount of quests. If anything, we will try to make advances in all of those areas. |
