1) Haden "Shug_Ninx" Blackman (Lucas Arts Producer) has written a lengthy development update filling you in on the current status of SWG.
2) Shug_Ninx again. This time on creature design:
When designing creatures for Star Wars Galaxies, we typically run into two problems: 1) Not enough reference; or 2) Conflicting references. #1 is far more common - we're creating a number of creatures from scratch, using only names as reference. #2 has cropped up only a handful of times (Bothans, Krayt dragon, womp rat).
In the case of the krayt, we started by compiling the four or five images that have been clearly identified as krayt dragon references. While there were similarities between the various krayts, there were also many differences. But these versions of the krayt were developed over several decades and for different mediums (including previous games), so it's understandable that they don't necessarily agree.
At any rate, we tried to use the most recent sources as our foundation and add elements from all of the other krayts as well. So, while our krayt may not look exactly like any of the others out there, it does draw heavily upon all of the previous krayt for specific features. The concept art was approved by Lucasfilm Licensing, and we built the model based on that.
3) And the final one for today also from Shug_Ninx:
Bohn: How accurately will the current star wars rpg books be to SWG? A lot of equipment and ship and places are layed out and thoroughly explained in the many books. Will these be used in planning SWG or will entirely new interpretations from the movies be made?
Shug_Ninx: We've already used a great deal of information from the Secrets of Naboo and Secrets of Tatooine sourcebooks.
Also, the creation of Star Wars content works both ways. We have planets in SWG that have never been mapped before; once our maps for these worlds are approved, they will be made available to Wizards of the Coast (through Lucasfilm Licensing) in the event they decide to cover any of these planets in their future sourcebooks.
