Actiontrip posted an interview with Richard "Hap" Cheung from the Purge team on their upcoming MMOFPS Purge. Here's an excerpt, dealing with the RPG elements in the game:
AT: How far do you mean to go with the inclusion of RPG elements in the game?
RC: One of the main features of Purge will be the ability to customize your character using RPG elements. Similar to most RPGs, players can build character to reflect their own playing style by distributing points in 7 attributes known as our DETAILS system. DETAILS stands for: Dexterity, Energy, Tenacity, Agility, Intelligence, Life, and Strength.
For example, if you like being a sharpshooter, then you would start with maximum Dexterity. That attribute increases accuracy and reduces weapon kick. Rushers would want high Life and Agility; Life obviously increases your health/hit-points and Agility increases your speed. If you enjoy pitching up a tent and camping, you would want high Strength, to carry extra ammo.
You can see for every class, there are great variations in potential play style. Just as people don't play alike, one Android is not going to be the same as another Android. It is your choice how you want your Android to be.
Being a partial RPG, Purge also scores the game differently than a typical FPS. While a frag count is still kept, the main focus is Experience Points (XP). XP is gained from killing opponents and completing team goals. The more powerful the opposing player, the more XP is gained. Completing team goals grants huge amounts of XP for all team members. When enough XPs are earned, a player levels and becomes more powerful. Leveling early is very easy and leveling at high levels is exponentially harder. In Purge, this also encourages completing team goals, as you need a healthy dose of team XP. |
