GW Online sent us notification of their latest 'Guild Wars' report, based on hands-on time with the alpha. The article covers PvP and PvM aspects:I logged into the tester forums to check our private guild forums and see what build we would be running. I chuckled, each week we pick a new theme for our character names and tonight we had chosen Dick Tracy characters; I'd be Mumbles. Scrolling down through the characters, I found my name. My jaw dropped a bit though; I hadn't expected what I was seeing at all. The character professions next to my name read 'Necromancer/Monk', and the skill selection picked exclusively from the Monk skills; I was going to be playing one of the two healers for the team. This was both good news and bad at the same time; I've always enjoyed playing the team healer in PvM maps, but PvP is a whole 'nother beast and quite difficult. As if I needed any more reason to be anxious, now I was counting down the minutes until we'd start. Like I said, I always enjoy playing the healer, but this time I was frightened; thinking back to previous matches I suddenly realized that I took the healing for granted and hadn't considered how difficult playing the team's Monks was, and I got the sinking feeling that I'd never be able to fill the role. Playing the team's healer is like playing the goalie in soccer; sure, all the other players count quite a bit, but if you don't play your position well then your team has little to no hope regardless of how well they play. This was definitely an interesting turn of events, and between my apprehension at playing one of the healers for the first time and my eagerness to play I was a fidgeting mess. |
