Khabal has conjured up a review of Phenomic's/JoWood's/Encore's RTS/RPG hybrid 'SpellForce'. Rating: 7/10.
After tearing my eyes away from the cute artwork on the cover, I finally sat myself down to look at this game. At first glance, it seems like another Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game, with a bit of Role-Playing Game (RPG) elements thrown in. You, as the main character (who isn’t exactly all powerful at the start) have the ability to summon workers who will then build various buildings where you can summon fighters, archers and other standard RTS folks. Your heroes have their own items, your main avatar has a spellbook, your little underlings tend to die faster unless buffed by your spells… For a moment, it reminded me of a custom Warcraft 3 map.
