A new Horizons Design Journal has been posted at RPGVault. Creative Director David Bowman gives you some info on artifacts. Here's an excerpt:
Artifacts are a class of player-built structures that provide benefits to either all members of local communities and/or all characters within the physical range of influence that the Artifacts possess. When enough player-built communities within an area have been established and developed, an Artifact-only community plot becomes available for development. The specific type of Artifact that can be built on that plot is designated by a system of rules developed by the designers. Since the rules are part of the storyline of the world, I will not detail them at this time. Suffice it to say that each Artifact type requires a great deal and specific types of resources during its construction, and that the result will be an ostentatious display of both multiple-community wealth and coordinated effort. |
