RPG Vault has interviewed Haemimont's Lead Designer Gabriel Dobrev about his company's upcoming RPG-flavored strategy game 'Nemisis of the Roman Empire' (formerly a.k.a 'Celtic Kings: The Punic Wars').Jonric: To start off, what kind of real-time strategy title is Nemesis of the Roman Empire? What kind of gameplay can players expect?
Gabriel Dobrev: Nemesis is a game about the annihilating conflict between Rome and Carthage, which lasted for more than a century and ended with the total destruction of the city of Carthage - The Punic Wars.
As a general of an army, the player often commands hundreds of warriors. While the player may order every single warrior, she often commands entire armies of up to 50 warriors led by a single hero; thus ordering 300 units into battle is as easy as ordering six heroes to advance.
In order to win, the player must employ the best positional strategy, train a powerful mix of warriors and manage her resources efficiently.
In Nemesis, we have limited the effect of unit micromanagement, which increases the value of the strategic decisions made by the player. If in WarCraft, for example, you win by efficiently using the abilities of every one of the few units you have, in Nemesis, you control hundreds of warriors and win by strategically choosing your army mix and the places of the battles.
Every one of the single-player missions presents the player with a different challenging situation. By using the available resources, the player must find one or more of the weaknesses in the enemy and defeat it. |
