Romero and Hall leave ION

Not RPG related, but noteworthy nevertheless. According to this newsbit on AVault, Romero and Hall have left ION Storm and ..., well, read it :-)

Game designers John Romero and Tom Hall have left the company they banded together to form five years ago. Romero is best known for his contributions to DOOM and QUAKE while at id Software, but also created the first-person shooter Daikatana while at ION Storm Dallas. Tom Hall was the creator of the recently released role-playing epic, Anachronox. Although there is no word on how their departure will affect the Dallas office, the ION Storm Austin studio producing Deus Ex 2 and Thief III will remain in operation as a wholly owned subsidiary of Eidos Interactive, Eidos said Thursday in a press release.

In the statement, Eidos said that Romero and Hall “have decided to depart ION Storm to pursue other interests,” adding credibility to rumors that Romero is launching a new startup. “We wish them luck in their future endeavors and thank them for their contribution to Ion Storm over the years, without which we would never have put together such talented teams in both our Austin and Dallas offices,” the press release concluded.
