Another ShadowFlare preview has been posted up at MadGamers. Here's an excerpt explaining what sets this game apart from other titles in the genre:
The first point that springs to mind is the setting – rather than going for a standard 'Swords and Sorcery' background, Shadowflare is set on Earth, in the not-too-distant future. The world changed when a demon appeared, unleashing the hordes that now rule the Earth. Small groups of humans began to teach themselves magic as a form of self defence; this is where the main character comes in. In this world the player acts as a mercenary – building skills in the realms of magic, as well as with weapons. This itself is a vital facet to the game that the setting provides. Magic is present, but so is technology from an early stage in the shape of mines that can be used to clear large amounts of monsters. This setting provides the interesting, and often overlooked, mix of technology and magic. This is a facet which should be expanded upon in the coming episodes of the game. |
