Guild Wars: Factions is up on us, and I'm tempted as all heck to call it an expansion pack. The description isn't totally off: it offers a whole bunch of new content for Guild Wars players, including features that their existing characters can get a whole lot of enjoyment out of, but also a bunch of stuff that might make it very tempting for them to start all over. But then, there's the one key difference that's impossible to ignore: someone off the street can buy Factions without ever knowing that there's another Guild Wars game out there, and have no inkling that they're playing an "expansion." In this sense, Factions feels very much like a complete, standalone product, one that we've been playing over the last week in preparation for our review (which we'll have soon after more thorough playtesting).
