IGN and C&VG have written down some Eve Online First Impressions. Both are on the positive site, but not fanatically so. Here's an excerpt from IGN:
The game does have it's down side though. With a completely player-driven economy finding the items and equipment you need at a price you can afford can be tough unless you have connections. Also, though you have a character portrait, most of your time is spent staring at your ship and the ships of others, making for a very generic environment to play in. Though this helps to keep down the graphical requirements for the game it does tend to make things rather bland and boring after a while. Also the lack of many NPC ships to battle, except for the odd pirate hiding in an asteroid field, means your only real option for combat is fighting other players, which can be a big negative for those that want the excitement of a battle in space without having to join the world of player killing. And of course the usual amount of bugs and balance issues have to be resolved, but that's to be expected for a game this young. |
