The latest IWD 2 Designer Diary went online at RPGVault. Dave Maldonado, designer, talks about his work. The diary also contains some new screenshots (at least new to me). Here's a bit from his article:
Today I'd like to point out that the Icewind Dale II team is absolutely frothing-at-the-mouth insane. "What's that," you say? "Why, they seem like a decent, completely stable bunch of young fellows to me," you're thinking. NOT TRUE! I will prove to you the extent of our derangement by sharing a big dark secret with everyone here. Shhh, don't tell anyone else - this is just between you and me.
You know all those kits we were doing? Well...
...THEY'RE GONE! Yes, we've replaced the kits (and proficiencies) with feats and true, bonafide, honest-to-goodness Third Edition D&D multi-classing. Wooo! Stacking of Hit Points, Attack Bonuses, Save Bonuses, and so on? Yep. Favored classes by race? Yep. Ability score increases every four levels? Yep. Skills and feats? Oh-ho-HOOO yes, my friends - and an extra feat for humans at first level! This means that players should be able to make just about any sort of character they want... and while some may rail against such as the Worst Thing Ever ("Hey, look, here comes the Dual-Wielding Drow Fighter/Ranger parade! There's hundreds of 'em!"), we think it's pretty damned cool to let players do what they like so long as it doesn't ruin anyone else's fun. |
