The official site for Asheron's Call 2 has posted something like a guide through the first stages of the game. Here's a snippet:
The first areas to receive attention were the training halls. Players would now find themselves in a Shelter Holding, a structure that helps connect the Shelters, to the ruined landscape of Dereth. Once appearing in the Holding, new players would now be quickly informed that the Drudges, the first of the Nemesis races they would encounter in their adventures, were trying to undermine the Holdings and break the Shelter's connection to Dereth. An ominous prospect! Along the way, new NPCs would guide the players and help familiarize them with the movement, combat and quest systems in AC2. The conclusion of the Holding would introduce the concept of the Vaults and the Menhir Shards found in them.

Part of the original implementation of the new Shelter Holdings called for all of them to be identical, using the original Human training hall as the starting point for all of them. This was actually done for story reasons, we wanted to introduce the concept that all of the player races had been living in the same Shelter, although perhaps in different parts of these enormous structures. However we found that many people enjoyed the different "feel" the original halls had, so in January we will be adding the new "Rescue the Shelter Hold" quests to the old Tumerok and Lugian training halls.
