Some Q&A from the IWD2 forums:

    Dave Maldonado

    More Q&A
Q: Can specialist wizards take levels in normal wizard and/or another specialty and if so how does this affect spell learning restrictions?
    A: No.

Q: Is the spell atonement in?
    A: Nope.

Q: At any point did you all consider using the same localized area of effect damage of Blade Barrier to simulate Whirlwind?
A: Me personally? No. But then, there is no Whirlwind.

Q: We have raised a question about the number of attacks per round in another thread. . . If you would be so kind as to provide an answer...
A: Is this about the maximum number of attacks? It's currently still five.

Q: Is "Improved Dual Wielding" in?
A: No it's not in, and no, the maximum attack limit is still currently five.

Q: For the ranger free feats (ambidex and TWF), do they need the prerequisite dexterity
A: As Gut Reaction noted, nope.
Remember, they're not so much "free feats" as they are a class ability that resembles two feats, and thus the light armor restriction.

Q: Are weapon "styles" still in the game like you guys said they would be a few months ago?
A: Oh, the weapon set configuration stuff? Being programmed as I type. Really! So barring something terrible happening with it, it's in.

Q: Are the descriptions of items going to reflect 3E advantages and penalties?
A: I believe so, yes. Right now the code is being modified so that it spits out all an item's statistics and effects as part of the item description (rather than having it be part of the description's actual text string).

Q: Will the character screen display things like current ASF penalties that are being imposed upon the character?
    A: It should, yes.

Q: In Bg2 monks were unable to use twohanded weapons because of avatar problems.
A: Correct, and IWD2 did not create brand new PC avatars. As such, existing problems associated with the BG2 PC avatars remain.
Yes, this means no monks with staves. Just like BG2.
Sort of sucks, huh? Ah, well.

Q: Will there be any way to select what avatar we're using in a multiclass situation?
    A: Still under consideration.

Q: so that a monk/fighter can use the monk avatar if we want it to, but can swap to the fighter avatar to use a staff if we wanted?)
A: Monks currently can't use two-handed weapons in IWD2. That's an IWD2 game rule (because of the avatar limitation), not just an avatar limitation. In other words, changing the monk's avatar (in any fashion) won't suddenly let him or her use two-handed weapons.

Q: Do players currently have to take Point Blank Shot before gaining access to the other ranged feats, or is it gone?
A: There is no Point Blank Shot Feat.
The Precise Shot feat reduces the penalty for firing in melee from -8 to -4. In other words, if a PC has a bow and an orc is attacking her in melee, she is -8 to hit that orc with an arrow. If she has the Precise Shot feat, she is only -4 to hit that orc with an arrow.

Q: Is spellcraft specific to one's spell list? Ie, can a wizard use his high spellcraft to identify a divine spell as it's being cast?
    A: No, so yes!

    Doug Avery (Wolf)

    Spellcraft
In terms of how we implement spellcraft in the game, when a caster begins his spell and any of your characters make their spellcraft check, text floats above the caster's head that reads something like:

    .:begins casting Cure Light Wounds:.

I think it's really cool since you know when to get on the casters with arrows for disrupting the spells. I hope that provides a little more insight into how it's being done.
