Mixing and matching genres in games is always a tricky business, from the RTS-FPS mix in Savage to the multiplayer FPS-RPG in Purge to the many action-RPGs in games like Diablo and Dungeon Siege to first person RPGs like Deus Ex. Developer Phenomic has created yet another genre combo game in Spellforce, which mixes real time strategy with role playing elements. The game has been released in Europe for a few months now via publisher JoWood but in February the game finally reaches American shores via publisher Encore. We recently received a near final copy of the game’s US version to get some hands-on time for ourselves.
