Once you have chosen your race you get to make some minor changes to their outward appearance. Once you finish your character you're taken to a special area for brand new characters. Here there are a few billboards with written instructions to get you started. A quick introduction to the shop and bank system will get you underway with a weapon and some ammo. This is probably also the best time to redefine the movement controls. Once you have them setup to your liking, head down to the fighting tutorial where an NPC will give you a quick lesson on shooting things. Here you can try fighting the most basic of creatures, called flobs, to earn your way to the real world. Combat for the early part of the game will consist of shooting at melee creatures whilst you run away from them. The flobs are one such example, they are happy little blue grubs that will roll into you. Don't worry too much because they can't hurt you in the newbie area. Once out of the training area you are now able to take damage, so you can't shoot things with impunity anymore. You'll also get the chance to buy a much wider variety of weapons and armor. But don't get too excited cause you're going to have to earn them.
