There is a preview of Deus Ex 2 at Gamesradar today. A detailed one, with lots of info from Project Director Harvey Smith, like this one:
"There's stuff in Deus Ex that is literally ripped from headlines. And Deus Ex 2 is going to be completely filled with realworld stuff, and big issues, like: how does the world work when man and machine come together, and what does that mean for humanity - what's the definition of a man?" Sometimes the team's accuracy in using contemporary technology to predict grim sci-fi consequences has been uncanny. In Deus Ex a terrorist organisation uses a highly contagious plague-like virus to spread chaos throughout the world. Does that sound familiar? It certainly should. Two years ago this was just an airy possibility. Since last September, the threat of bio-terrorism has become an uncomfortable reality.
Of course, one of the highlights of Deus Ex was its reliance on a cast of interesting, rounded characters. Which old faces will we see? "There are some very cool new characters and some very cool new factions that you'll interact with," teases Spector. "But the thing I'm most happy about is the way in which the team has managed to integrate some of my favourite old characters. I'm not going to talk about that at the moment, but there's some really elegant re-use of old characters. Tracer Tong is my favourite character, so I want to see him play a bigger role. Other members of the team like different characters so you'll see some of them coming back changed - some of them will be more powerful than you remember, some less." |
