PC.IGN joins Gamespy in also having a hands-on preview of Deus Ex: Invisible War from a visit to Ion Storm. Here's some more comments on the branching story:On our brief visit to Ion Storm, we were privy to a handful of levels from the game, though honestly, DX2 is a difficult game to digest, let alone get a feel for in just an hour or two. With so much emphasis put on the narrative, bite-sized maps played out of context with the rest of game can only tell us so much. But we were given a brief demo on how DX2's levels are nonlinear and can be played from numerous perspectives. Take the slums of Seattle level. The RPG-lover in you could take a standard RPG approach and converse with the numerous NPCs littered in the environment, receiving quests to complete, as well as background information on the world around you. But you must pick and choose your quests wisely, as taking on one mission from one faction will more than likely conflict with another's interests. The only problem with this is that "nonlinear" and "levels" don't easily go together. |
