This weekend saw an incredible uproar in the Anarchy online community after the 12.6 patch was installed on Friday. There are reports of mass cancellation of accounts, AO Vortex posted this message on his site that he will quit AO:

I now am leaving Anarchy Online, and it is final. I am sick of Funcom, I am sick of lag, and I am sick of exploiters and nerfing. This last patch was the last straw for ALOT of dedicated players, I have been around since Beta 3, and..put-up with AO in hopes that the lag and crashing would disappear for the release, when it didn't, I told my self it would be shortly fixed, and now that..after almost 4 months, the lag and crashing is there, accompanied by nerfed classes and shitty gameplay, I have had it. As have many people. Funcom's ignorance, stupiditity, and lies have gotten themselves here. They claim to read the boards and listen to people. When a post about rolling everything back to 12.5 gets 1000 bumps, and we still sit here with patch 12.5....there is a problem..Funcom is making money and they could care less what we think, this is the first time a product of theirs has made decent money, and they know it's coming to an end soon, being as how I logged in 4 times in the past week, giving stuff away, and not a person, out of 167, was logged in on my Friends list.

At AO Basher, you can find a little bit more about what went wrong with the patch (which seems to be only one, but the most serious in a line of problematic patches):

My own personal experiences of the patch were not good, I found a group and headed to the Tir temple, red mobs were killing our tanks in no more than five hits, entire teams were being wiped out, it was like watching a real life Armageddon day. I actually did survive, although 4 of my comrades unfortunately died a horrible death to a relatively low level MOB for our fully equipped team. We decided to cut our losses and run back to save. On the way back a grey MOB decided he liked the look of my Atrox ass and went for me, it was only a grey one so I decided to kill it. The plan was sound, low lvl MOB ,mid level player,no problem at all! , things took a sharp turn for the worse when I was doing no damage to it what so ever, I arrived at the reclaim terminal shortly after.
Cz from Funcom community relations actually appeared in our IRC room not long after that, when he was presented with some of the issues like, invulnerable mobs, he told us

    You should jump

There's the fix folks, if you are not doing any damage jump up and down, Oh Cz, I am, I assure you I really am. My little story is one of many, there are a lot more like them , Nano Techs not dealing any damage at all, whole teams dieing to a single grey mob, high level players having nothing to do but sit in baboons pretending to dance, lets face it folks, things are not looking good.

There is now something like a petition at the official forum to get back 12.5, but even if Funcom decides to do so, the future for AO doesn't look too bright...
