RPGCault features an interview with Bruce Everiss from Codemasters about their upcoming MMORPG "Dragon Empires". Here's something from that Q&A:
Conversely, is the game a skill based game, and if so, is there a ceiling in place, so I cannot become the "best at everything" and have very real trade-offs to choose?
Bruce Everiss: There will be a limit to how good you get but within a class. You can chooses further specialization and migrate your specialization once you have topped out.
If the system is level-based, what is being done to move us from the widely perceived 'leveling treadmill' that most games embrace?
Bruce Everiss: We have not been able to completely get rid of leveling. The progression system involves spending build points on skills in a non-linear way. Build points themselves are not earned just by killing monsters but also from other kinds of behaviors. The kinds of behavior needed to progress your character depend on what you start with and where you want to go. Also having built one kind of skill set you can migrate a character into other skill sets. |
