Aasgeier from his own fanpage ;) has conducted an interview (German) on Gothic II with Mike (Michael Hoge) from German Piranha Bytes (PB). There are also three new exclusive screenshots to be found inside.

Let me sum up the most important new facts for you. Err... I hope they're new. Haven't been able to keep up to date with every Gothic II tidbit due to a serious lack of time ;) . Our hosted site, Gothic@RPGDot is going to feature a translation of the full interview tomorrow.

  • Mike is very pleased with the sales figures of Gothic I. He says that expectations have been exceeded and that they are very happy about how Gothic I has performed in the US market so far.

  • Mike said that PB is trying to take care of a consistent story. There seem to be plans for Gothic III. That's why the end game in Gothic II is not going to depend on which character class you have chosen in the game. The end is the same for all characters.

  • There will be six chapters in Gothic II. It depends on the player how linear the game is going to be. You may either stick to the main plot or pursue all the little side quests. It's all up to you. Whatever it may be, Gothic II is supposed to offer much more diversity than part 1.

  • When asked about characters from Gothic I, Mike said that you might meet Diego, Milten, Gorn, Lester, Ur-Shak, Velaya etc. in Gothic II. This seems to depend on how much exploration you're willing to do.

  • You will be playing the same hero as in Gothic I. However, there is no character import. The background of Gothic I's hero is going to be unveiled in Gothic II. You will no longer just be an anonymous individual.

  • The AI has improved. You won't get away with murder as easily as in Gothic I.

  • The world has technically been cut in half so you won't be required to have at least 512MB RAM in your system.

  • Gothic I was lacking side quests in the last couple of chapters. There are supposed to be lots more side quests to solve in Gothic II's final chapters.

  • There will be no "In Extremo" (German Gothic rock band) performance in Gothic II.

  • The voice actors from Gothic I are going to do the dialogues for Gothic II again plus some more...

  • A demo is supposed to be released before the retail game hits shelves.
