A Tale in the Desert Dev Tour

Val Sucher, 2002-02-13

When I was offered the chance to go on a developer tour of A Tale in the Desert (ATITD) I leapt at the chance. ATITD is a unique MMORPG set in ancient Egypt that focuses on crafting and building rather than on combat. James Hills and Otter were kind enough to show me some of the more interesting places that have been created in the game.

The first place I was taken was the Deep Well that had been built in the River Plains region. A Deep Well is an expensive structure that produces petroleum. Petroleum had no known use at the time. It's uses will be revealed after the game's full release.

Next, I was taken to Otter's guild which is close to the Deep Well.

I was then taken on a tour of some of most beautiful and unique areas of the game. As you can see from the screenshots below, the graphics engine is quite capable of producing some stunning scenery. The water effects can also be quite amazing.
