IGN has posted a preview of The Bloody Magic, the first one of its kind. Here's a bit:
The main choices for those that play the game will come with how they proceed with combat and problem solving. Instead of having the option to be a warrior or thief or any of these things, most of your attacks and interactions with the world will come with magic. All told, there are 40 basic spells that players can find in the game that run the gambit of magical mayhem. The real trick is in how you combine each of these spells. Players will be able to choose two spells for the two slots in the character interface. You'll be able to use one, the other, or both together at the same time for a completely new spell effect. As you can see, this significantly increases the number of spells players will be able to fling around the world.
The funnier thing is that every time you switch out one of the spells to use a different ability or attack, your character will actually change his appearance completely. At this point, there doesn't seem to be a transition between character looks, they just change, but it's still a nifty idea that keeps players wanting to try out new combinations and will probably result in some preferring certain types of magic just because they like the character design that comes with it. |
