The Grimoire website, which was offline for a few weeks, is back online again and holds this info abut the demo, which is to be released soon (hopefully):
GRIMOIRE BETA DEMO IS PROGRESSING RAPIDLY

The demo is looking nice. It's essentially a version of the game with everything but four connected areas stripped out. It plays well, gives a good sense of the pure gaming bliss that is Grimoire and will show the entire world what they've been missing for the past five years. I was having so much fun playing it I had to tear myself away to work on it. Grimoire is a very immersive experience.

You can literally see almost everything in the demo: exploration, character management, combat, spellcasting, NPC interaction, lockpicking, puzzles, everything is in there. I ask people to take a look at the demo when it is released and ask yourself if perhaps some things really might be worth the wait if they are done right.
