Seems we have to tick this one off from our Release List: AVault reports that Nevolution's Shadows of Reality was sacked and will not be finished. The trouble seems to have started when their modeler got hired by Verant. This is what AVault has to report:
Two guys in a garage creating a game that can turn the industry on its ear has become a thing of the past, or so the unfortunate turn of events regarding an innovative project called Shadows of Reality would lead us to believe. Game developer Nevolution announced in their online forums earlier this year that the ambitious System Shock and Deus Ex-styled first-person role-playing game might be put on hold unless funding was obtained. At the time, the developers were hoping to join the Xbox Incubator program and develop a single-player game in order to attract a publisher, but were left without the necessary staff when Verant hired their original modeler. Additional personnel losses and a lack of funding have since led Nevolution to shelve the title, the Adrenaline Vault has learned.
Can Nevolution bring Shadows of Reality down and dust it off at a later date? Steve Adkins, producer and programmer, hopes so. “Maybe when the game industry is a little more favorable to original ideas and not sequels, we will see what we can do. I still want to make and play the [massively multiplayer] version of this,” Adkins told the Adrenaline Vault this morning in a brief e-mail interview. | Source: Adrenaline Vault |
