Actually, this was an incompatibility between some BIOS settings and the way AGP was used (detonators are to blame, too). Well, VIA has now released a new set of drivers that changes some settings in the BIOS (those you can't reach yourself). I installed it today, and so far, things are stable like never before. I have heard it works for most chipsets (have a look at the forums when you follow the link - it's in the XPChat section), so you might want to try it if you have run in troubles with XP and games so far (should work for 2000, too).
