Swiss GBase.ch paid Piranha Bytes a visit in Bochum, Germany and published quite a lot of new (German language) infos about Gothic II.
First of all they have an interview with PBs' Kai Rosenkranz. Here's a summary of the second page which covers the technical details:
  • engine performance has been optimized
  • Gothic II will run smoothly even though poly count and texture resolutions have been drastically raised (as compared to Gothic)
  • the detail level of Gothic II will be higher than that of Gothic
  • details like reflective water, animated bushes etc. will be present but optional (for performance reasons)
  • graphics will be customizable down to the smallest detail
  • all DirectX 7 compatible video card chipsets will be supported, with GeForce2 or better being optimal
  • the game will also be playable on a GeForce 1 with at least 32 MB
  • Gothic II will run on Voodoo cards, albeit very slowly
  • a demo *might* be available before the game hits the shelves, but it's not sure yet
The freaky pictures showing Piranha Bytes at work are definitely worth a look *g*.
GBase.ch also feature a new Gothic 2 preview, without really new infos.
