I love this game, as I do all games by Jeff Vogel. Wonderful stories that absorb you for weeks at a time are worth a small amount of graphical sacrifice. |

Really a damn superb game if you prefer a great storyline and interactive world over flashy graphics. Sometimes the text described stuff that amazing graphics never could. |

The story has choice, but the methods are obtuse- you literally can't fail to notice when you're increasing/decreasing your "I like serviles!" tally. The sides all seem a bit simplistic; that is, the philosophy is aimed at fourth-graders in libertarian training camp. Gameplay is interesting, but only insomuch as Pokémon is interesting, and whereas Pokémon capitalizes on this, Geneforge sadly remains stale shortly after the game's opening movements. Lots of promise, yeah- but not much else. |

This review is very much after the fact - Mr. Vogel is about to release the Windows version of Geneforge 3 this summer - but Geneforge 2 is fantastic and something I've played for months in various roles. The man doesn't do hack/slash much (thank heavens), and getting a positive result in all the conflict of the Geneforge world is an interesting and time consuming occupation. Can't wait to start in on the next one! |
