IGN.PC has written a preview of Earth And Beyond from Westwood. Here's an interesting bit:
Jumping in the game, you'll find it's relatively intuitive. Everything has an easily comprehensible, almost Diablo II kind of feel. In the ship view, you can hold down the right mouse button to move forward. From there you just simply move the mouse in the direction you'd like the ship to turn. The left mouse button selects targets on the main view and activates the various buttons and menus that lie at the edges of your screen.
Customizing your ship is as easy as dragging and dropping components from one window to another. Docking at starbases, looting enemies and communicating with other players is pretty painless at this point. There are six slots at the bottom of the screen that you can link to various actions and skills. This gives you a handy shortcut to fire weapons, activate your cloaking device, use your shields to power your weapons and handle any number of other tasks.
While combat is only one of three possible paths to advancement, it was the one we focused on. After selecting a target you can steer your ship towards it on your own or elect to have the computer do it for you. The target window provides lots of details about your target including range, relative strength and basic standing (whether it's friendly or not). As you close on your enemy, a small reticle on your weapons icon begins to shrink. Once it turns green, you're within range. You can fire your weapons yourself or opt to enable an autofire mode. Once you've won (you didn't think you'd lose did you?) you can simply click on the enemy to steal all of their worldly possessions. |
