The Matrix Online was announced several months before Matrix: Revolutions was released in theaters. Unfortunately, within the press information was a secret I did not want to see, "The Matrix Online will take place after the final film". Right there ruined the ending for Revolutions. If there is a Matrix Online then there must be a matrix, and therefore the ending of Revolutions must conclude with the Matrix still intact. So from before it was born, The Matrix Online had one strike against it.
