In day 2 of NWVault's giant DragonLance feature they've interviewed lead artist Ron Norton. Here's a snip:
9) You've spent a lot of time creating the models and textures for the Solace tileset. Could you tell our readers what to expect from it, how the simultaneous heights & bridges work and what kind of a challenge it has been to create such a complicated tileset?
Some of the game engine's limitations, like not allowing walk-meshes to over lap, have created a very challenging environment for Solace. We have tried to make the fact that you cannot move directly under an over-head bridge as unobtrusive and transparent as possible. The whole town is pretty much there: all the main characters' houses are located in town, the central buildings, general housing and the Inn too. At well over 600 custom tiles we think the community will appreciate the work that has gone into Solace. But most of all, it's been a thrill for us to bring it to life and - for a few moments at least – to lose ourselves in it and see it as we have each imagined it. |
