If you go to RPGRadar, you can find an intervew with Marko Dieckmann, Duplex Systems' CEO about their upcoming MMORPG Face of Mankind. Here's an excerpt for you:
RPGRadar: Something that seems to frustrate even the best Online RPG players is travel. How will traveling be accomplished in Face of Mankind?
Marko Dieckmann: Traveling is easy in FOM. There are two ways for traveling - long distance travel and “in-level” travel.
Long distance travel is accomplished by using “Vortex Gates”, which is the most important transportation system in the FOM universe. It is a nearly timeless journey from one world to another. You can travel from any world to any world, even to your own apartment. To take a journey you have to get a ticket before on one of the Vortex Terminals. It is possible to buy such a ticket hours before you actually take the jump. This provides the use of tactics. If you plan to get out of an area quickly, this could be very useful. Plus, tickets can be shared among players.
“In-level” travel means transportation within a level. There will be so called “Tubes”, which is some kind of a streaming system that moves you in a certain direction by gravitational forces. You will enter the tube and will be transported immediately. Another in-level transportation system are beamers. This is a timeless transportation within a certain area. The place your are beamed to is always the same. |
