The second interview with Larian Studios Swen "Lar" Vincke about Ritfrunner popped up at Gamingzone.be.
Here is a blurb from it:
3) Creating a whole Divine Divinity universe, was this planned or did you came up with this idea after the release of DD?

When we started the concept of the Divinity Universe, we already had ideas to expand trough Riftrunner. The wasn't there yet, but the idea was. We knew our vision, but after three years development to Divinity it was, however, difficult remain objectively. The motivation to start with Riftrunner however, was driven by the positive reactions of our fans. If their intereset wasn't their, then we had possibly created another world. But the message is now clear: “Hey folks, if you get into the Divinity universe, you know it’s a place you’ll be spending a lot of time in because we’ll keep on making games for it.” ;)
