Imperator takes a different tack than the fantasy filled MMORPGs that take up the majority of the genre (and which Dark Age of Camelot is a part of). Instead, the game takes place in a future sci-fi world but one that also takes place in a alternate timeline from our own. It's a world where the grand republic that was the Roman Empire was never sack by barbarians but took over the entire planet and, later, other planets.
