With the treachery of Desther,
supported
unwittingly by Fenthick's stupidity, the Cure for the
Wailing
has been stolen. You will venture into another realm to
wreak
Justice and fill your pouch.
The wise will bring the most
complimentary
henchman, with a pack laden with healing spells or potions
if
Linu is not your choice..
Helm's Hold
Stronger characters will want to go directly to the
(1)front
gate of Helm's Hold, while weaker or perhaps, just more
wily
folk, can enter through a (2)cave to the west.
(1) A couple of higher level Undead and various other
nasties
will greet you as you enter the Courtyard. The pathetic
Fenthick
is also here in an alcove to the east. Grab the
Etched
Gem from the corpse near him.
In the Main Entranceway, put the Etched Gem on the altar
to
avoid tangling with the Guardian Armors. Or not, if want
to
pit your skills against these level 4 Constructs.
2) Inside the cave,
there
is a Level 4 Rogue/3 Fighter named Jinkies. Slaughter him.
Talk
to Johnny nicely and he will serve as an improptu
vendor.
Did you gather up a Helm uniform? Put it on before you
cross
the threshold to open the doors of the prison cells. The
Zombie
Warriors within want to come out and play. There is also a
Helmite
named Dumal and an idiot named Yari who can help you
understand
some of the politics but are little help with the actual
quest.
Chaohinon Or The Guardian
Spirit?
There are two side quests that you must choose between.
You
will collect a reward for either, but not both. Your
alignment
will have a say in which items you are given.
Chaohinon |
Guardian of
Helm |
Ascorian Double Axe +1 vs. Evil, Vampiric
Regeneration |
Periapt of Wisdom +1: +1 to Wisdom
(duh!) |
Dragon Slippers: SR10, Dex+2, Immunity to Fear
&
Knockdown |
Ring of Elemental Resistance: Damage Resist 15%
to
Acid, Cold, Electrical and Fire |
Cloak of Movement: Freedom of Movement |
Elven Court Bow: Attack +3 and Mighty
+3 |
You will find an unfinished summoning in a room to the
NorthEast.
The demon will offer you a reward to complete the
summoning.
You will find the Black Grimoire in a
bookcase
just south of the room.
South of the stairs to the second floor and east of the
demon,
is a room guarded by a False Helmite Elite. Once you've
removed
him from the gene pool, you will find the Book of
Helm
to restore the Guardian Spirit.
Desther
After you have solved your moral dilemma and taking your
just
reward, head upstairs to face the wicked and deluded
Desther.
This will be your most difficult battle to date since
Desther
has a plethoria of Abilities.
He is a Level 10 Cleric with 230HP & and AC of 13. He
has
a slew of Divine Spells such as Slay Living, Divine Power
and
Searing Light. He will be Hasted when you meet, and has
resistance
to Spells, Piercing, Slashing and Bludgeoning. The nice
thing
is that he get's all of these from his zombie slaves. So
get
to work undermining his power by returning to the grave
those
poor zombies.
Once you've taken on Desther and gotten him to surrender,
finish
looting the place. Once you decide to take him back to
Neverwinter,
the place is history and Chapter Two begins.
