NW Vault has posted a community Q&A for 'The Witcher', with answers provided by CD Projekt. Here's one of the questions:
5) How large will be the territory in game? (in square kilometers) - Ksandr Warfire

It's hard to exactly specify the size of the game's territory, since a large part of it takes place indoors. What's more, if we were to be honest, we'd have to specify the very term of 'game territory'. Take the locations around the city of Vyzime… all of them combine, creating an entity, surrounding a picturesque lake which, by the way, covers the area of tens of dozens square kilometers. Do we then include the lake's surface to the game territory? Or do we not? Should we take into consideration the entire game's territory? Or should we rather concentrate on the places the player might visit? Some locations are placed within mountain ranges - should we, therefore, include the unreachable peaks, or just the paths one may safely travel? Considering all such doubts, we'd rather avoid misleading anyone with information. Suffice to say, the outdoor, reachable territories are huge enough to make the gamer use their traveling maps, instead of wandering the lands for a long time. If it weren't enough, there are also two huge cities, numerous indoor locations and multi-level dungeons whose size us difficult to even estimate. The games largest metropolis are the conjoined cities of New and Old Vyzime - probably one of the greatest cities ever presented in a PC RPG game.
