Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 8/10 points |
Excellant game over all. In depth character development is possible and completely open ended. Graphics and sound are top-notch. It even comes with an editor to modify the game to add classes, spells, items, creatures, races, etc. - if you can stomach the laborious task.
There are problems with the game. Hand-to-hand combat is a joke and pointless. Don't play a monk! The control to allow the keyboard to be used for turning instead of the mouse doesn't work. Handicapped people will NOT be able to play this game - PERIOD! I find this the worst problem of all. Crashes to desktop related to the use of CD copy protection software. The same software also lowers performance considerably but it is tolerable on high end systems (barely). I highly recommend using an ISO image of your discs instead of the real thing.
Disappointments are few, but I really miss that the following were not included: dwarves, gnomes, halflings (hobbits), faerie folk, normal animals, and SLINGS.
Some interface items could have been more consistant and while the manual is good, it could use more detail. A turn based option would also have been nice (again for handicapped users and those of us with lower manual dexterity). Combat can be problematic if you aren't 18 years old and able to click and move like mad. Use a game pad if you have one. I imagine the X-Box version will be better than the PC version for that reason. |
