CDV sent us some info about the Orcs in Divine Divinity, and here is what they had to say:
WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ORCS IN DIVINE DIVINTIY?
Most of the Orcs live in large tribes in the southern parts of Rivellon. All
tribes pursue different interests, and inter-tribal conflicts are a regular
occurrence. Some tribes even keep contact and trade relations with humans.
Once a year, all tribes gather in the Plains of Grak-Nal-Dur, where the
brave Orc warriors celebrate their raids and pillages against the rest of
the populace. The individual tribe leaders use this gathering to forge new
alliances with other clans. Some Orc warlords would like to unite all tribes
under one flag, however, this is a dream still seemingly out of reach.
We have many different classes of Orcs in Divinity, they are all rather
unique and have their skills and hierachy in like your human community.
Although not overly intelligent, they rely on brawn over brains and can
decimate in an instant. In numbers they are a force to reckoned with and
can lay a castle siege with out warning as you will find out in the game,
but I wont go into anymore detail as there are alot Orcy surprises in store
;) Instead here is a list of Orcs to expect.
Orc Warrior
Cross Bow Orc
Elite Orc
Orc Shaman
Orc Drummer
Giant Orc Chief
Giant Orc Commander
Giant Orc Lord
ORCS ARE A FUNNY BUNCH, CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THEY WILL REACT IN THE GAME?
Yes, Orcs are a funny bunch, in fact I am surrounded by them everyday...
most of the Orc characteristics come from my staff... they yell alot, break
things, and run around beserk, but it could just be me driving them up the
wall.
But back to the game, Orcs are rarely alone in Divinity, they are like
wolves, they hunt in packs and draw strength from numbers. When you see an
Orc, you will know that others lurk close by ready to pounce. You will
notice this alot in the game. Orcs have always been seen as a stuipid race
but dont underestimate them... they are very curious and a hugely
mischevious bunch. For example there will be a point in the game where an
Orc Chief cant find a legendary axe... guess who he asks to do this dirty
deed? Of course you can refuse... but would it be wise to refuse an Orc
chief that stands almost 8 ft tall? I'll let you do the math :) There will
also be points in the game where they carefully lead your character into
traps that are so obvious yet hard to resist. All these bits I have talked
about will hopefully make it into the Divinity demo due out soon.
As Orcs hunt in packs, it means that their teamwork has to be well
co-ordinated. Each Orc we created will go about doing their regular task.
Orc Warriors are like cannon fodder, they charge without thinking twice, the
Cross Bow Orcs stand closely behind them firing while Orc Shamans will be
blasting a whole load of annoying lightning and fireball spells. Their
interaction together is like a unified chain, destroy key links in an orc
formation and you will see them scamper... |
