AVault has a preview of Heroes of Might & Magic 4 online today. Here's something from that:
The first thing veteran players will notice is the heavy graphical facelift. The change is even more noticeable than that made from part two to part three. Heroes IV's manual states the development team created an entirely new engine, and the results are visually astounding. The terrain graphics have all been updated to a kind of pseudo-3D that shows off the land and creatures with an unprecedented level of detail. Instead of a flat two-dimensional map, the world features real topography along with hordes of ambient detail, from mountain passes to forests of magical mushrooms. The overall effect allows Heroes IV to break out of the tile-based look and into a livelier, realistic world. Structures now have more lifelike proportions, with towns actually appearing like large fortifications, and windmills and waterwheels that are scaled properly to the character models. As in the previous title, Heroes IV also comes with an underground level, adding even more possibilities for exploration. Finally, the program now supports multiple resolutions all the way up to 1280x1024 for those who want a huge view of the playing field. |
