CGO brings us a preview of Heroes of Might & Magic 4. Once again, the screenshots look very nice, and what we are told about the game, sounds the same:
Building up your hero is going to be more interesting as well, New World promises, largely because you won't be able to do it all. You'll have to make choices on what skills you take, and each of the 11 starting classes of heroes will have distinct characteristics and abilities. In past Heroes games, this wasn't generally the case. "They were necromancers, or they were not," says 3DO spokesperson Kate Hedstrom of previous heroes. "That was not necessarily a good way of going." There are also five magical schools (Life, Death, Order, Chaos and Nature) and four non-magical skills (Combat, Nobility, Scouting, and Tactics). Balance is the key. "When we re-created the magic system," says Van Caneghem, "we knew magic had to be effective, but not so strong that you wouldn't want to create some thuggish Barbarian who just carried an axe around all the time." In Heroes IV, either path can lead to victory. |
