RPG Vault's 'Mourning' Peek #43 takes a look at the character development system in Quad's fantasy MMORPG that used to known as 'Realms of Torment'.
Mourning is a fantasy-based online world that quickly stands out in a number of ways. For one, it is in development by a pair of independent studios, Newrosoft Research & Development and Quad Software. Both are located in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, while a third party, developer and publisher Limitless Horizons Entertainment, is based in the US. In all likelihood, the primary point of differentiation is the title's openly declared focus on player versus player combat within a system said to range from one on one encounters to conflicts at more substantial levels such as guilds, towns and kingdoms.

The project also boasts four playable races, plus sub-races that will appear as the game and its world, Krel, evolve. Characters will be able to advance via an extensive skill-based system encompassing combat, magic and trade. Of course, many types of weapons, armor and other equipment will be available, all brought to life by the proprietary Abyssal engine that incorporates sophisticated graphical effects, complex skeletal and morphing animations, advanced wind effects, and detail aplenty. With testing currently in progress and release seeming a matter of months away, the team agreed to tell is about its creation on a regular basis.
