An interview with Game Director Gaute Godager from Funcom at RPGVault talks about the upcoming AO booster pack "The Notum Wars". Here's an excerpt:
Jonric: What factors led to Shadowlands not being ready for release this year as originally projected? How did the idea of the booster pack come about? And why release it instead of including the same content in the expansion, just a few months later?
Gaute Godager: The reason why Shadowlands was delayed is easy to explain. We want it to be of the highest possible quality. Funcom has learned a harsh lesson about not releasing anything that hasn't got the best possible quality. We will not rush a product to the stores that we are not satisfied with.
On top of that, the booster pack is a great new concept. If you look at the framework of the Shadowlands - featuring almost meta-physical qualities, new lands and character development content, you will realize that the PvP-focused land control concept would not have felt like an integrated part of that package.
The booster pack crew got bolstered when we saw we couldn't release the Shadowlands this year. We saw the land control set of features as something else, a big thing we have invested heavily in - and that the players would enjoy even more on its own. |
