IGN's Charles Onyett presents this rather promising, albeit rather short, preview re BioWare's recently announced "Mass Effect"...

During the X05 keynote speech this evening in Amsterdam, Peter Moore announced three new Xbox 360 exclusive upcoming games and all developed in part by Microsoft Game Studios. Demos for all three titles were shown.

Bioware is currently working on its next epic RPG titled Mass Effect, which we was shown briefly after the Crackdown and Too Human demos. This all new RPG will be set in the future, the 23rd Century to be exact, and will have a focus on space and interstellar conflict instead of elves and dwarves and medieval times.

The demo we saw featured some sweeping shots of space that with various shining planets and stars. Though that shot appeared to be a cinematic, there were a few scenes that looked as though they could be in-game. One of the scenes was of a monster inside what could have been a space vessel. Amid shining metal railings and cargo crates there a monster that lashed back and forth with smoothly animated tentacles emanating from it's mouth. Another scene showed what appeared to be a soldier in a blue and white form fitting suit. After moving forward slightly he brought out a small white gun that altered its shape a few times to form a large rifle. Overall the game strongly resembled KOTOR in its visual style, especially a scene with a large field with shifting green and yellow grass against a crisp blue sky. We're beyond excited for more details of this title to emerge even though the demo was so short.
