Great RPG with loads of replay value.

cardigait has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from cardigait)

Some boring bugs, but gameplay somewhat near more to fallout and PS:T than BG-> Thumbs Up !

EverythingXen has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from EverythingXen)

I love how every little thing has some minor effect on the world. The replay value is frighteningly high, as there are about 6 ways to get through the game. I loved it. The graphics were a little weak and the overland travel got tedious.... but the game shone in depth.

Calis has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Calis)

This game offers one of the most non-linear gameplay experiences to date. The setting is original, and the storyline is great. The game does, however, come with a few flaws: the game tends to slow down from time to time, doesn't come with a top-notch graphics engine, and has quite a few balancing issues. If you're willing to look past these flaws, however, you'll find a real gem.

Good game and character dev. The game was kind of ruined for me because I used a char editor when things got tough. Good game, not quit great.

Brian has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Brian)

Arcanum is simply the best RPG you're going to find out there until Morrowind and NWN come out, period! It's only real flaw is (and it is significant) is that it is terribly Buggy. But nothing compares to it, except for it's predecessors Baldur's Gate and Fallout.

Sturm has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Sturm)

I was only able to play the game for 4 hours before being too bored to go on.

this game was very successful at putting me to sleep when i had to work early the next day.

Tim has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tim)

Arcanum is definitely my RPG of the year, and my 3rd favourite game after Fallout 1&2. Whilst it had some flaws (in particular some gameplay issues) it was a highly enjoyable, engrossing game that I have played to completion 5 times, and started several other times. I have not played any other game I bought this year more than once. P.S. I don't want Dungeon Siege - I took that piece of crud back 6 days after I bought it.

Ralph has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Ralph)

Great concept, mediocre execution. Some of the design decisions in this game just made no sense at all. The low level cap ensured that if you recruit NPCs late in the game, they will NEVER level up! Guns were completely unbalanced with the looking-glass rifle being far superior to all other weapons. Etc. Overall, just not as good as it could have been.

Player-character customization is the only merit of this game. The setting is not to my taste.

HiddenX has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from HiddenX)

a game from the makers of Fallout - combat is a bit too unbalanced and easy - but the story is pure fun.

J.Campbell has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from J.Campbell)

Lucky Day Dragon has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lucky Day Dragon)

A few minor quirks here and there were vastly made up for by the sheer immensity of the game. Very intersting Steampunque athmosphere - sort of reminds of of Space 1889. I always thot this would be an excellent proggie to make a prequal for Martian Dreams. Its fallout meets BG. Excellent story biggest diff with BG is the sidequests were interesting and actually seemed part of the game. My favourite being the gnome breeders. I'm going to write some fiction soon on their relationship to the Bene Tleilax! Far from perfect - game could scroll to crawl at times with too many chars, and of course the balancing issues. The biggest problem the developers made was releasing it with DirectX 8. The game was made for 7 and how were they to know MS were going to mess around with audio buffers and graphic card acceleration.

This was a good attempt, but I felt it was a little overworked, and just did not have the same magic as the Fallout games.

The game!

Gerko has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Gerko)

A great game. Adapts very well to the kind of character you're playing. One of the few RPG's out there where you can actually role-play. There's some gameplay and balancing problems, but I love it anyway.

Lintra has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lintra)

Very flexible system. Good story.

chud has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from chud)

great game. lots of replay value. some problems with combat and balance, but story line was fantastic.

CM has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from CM)

Closest thing to allowing true rpg'ing. Excellent plot writing. Unique, well-developed, and consistent atmosphere.

Quinn has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Quinn)

Non-linear, deep character creation and backgrounds, compelling story, marvelous cut-scenes, orchestral music, and perhaps the most original CRPG theme of all time. This is a must-play game, right up there with Fallout and Wasteland as "best ever." Minor gripes: slightly dated graphics (you get used to them fast), limited weapon/item selection (though maybe I was spoiled by Diablo at the time.)

ender has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from ender)

A role-playing game with quite an interesting setting, huge game world, and dwarves with guns (how cool is that?), however it falls short in polish, and the weak combat system.

Jason F has rated 2/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jason F)

I loved Fallout/Fallout 2 but this game was trash. Slow and boring and dull.

frank has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from frank)

Unique setting, great non-linear gameplay.

Akelion has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Akelion)

Arcanum was one of the greatest dissapointments. Although the character system was quite good it wasn't used efficiently and the story was everything else than gripping. But still it was a rather good RPG.

hone has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from hone)

Sats has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Sats)

Rab has rated 2/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Rab)

Miserable gameplay. Combat was easy and boring, with no tactical depth. Character development is frustratingly slow when you have a single point per level to allocate. There needed to be more feedback on things occuring in-game, and fewer bugs. The world seemed unfinished (a lot of empty houses that looked like they were meant to hold something if anyone got around to populating them) and ugly. NPC interaction showed some interesting tricks, but it's not enough to save this title. This is a bad game with a few great ideas in it. At least it's better than M&M IX.

Qaz has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Qaz)

Well done Troika. Well done!

Henrik Stevn Nielsen has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Henrik Stevn Nielsen)

A slighty rough diamond, but a true masterpiece when you get past the bugs.

Studley has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Studley)

Fun with lots of re-playability.

HotPants has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from HotPants)

The variety and depth of plot, and the way the world and characters all change their reactions to you based on what you've done, goes beyond what anyone else has done. Some RPGs are about building stats. This one as actually about playing a role.

Azira has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Azira)

Great game! The best CRPG I've played since Ultima VII back in the start of the '90s. Truly magnificent. A 'must play'.

DarkFencef has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from DarkFencef)

I wasn't expecting too much from this game, but I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of the game was the character customization. You can truly make up your own classes based on the skills you chose, and make the game a completely different experience by doing so. A great game!

Tsux has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tsux)

Hmm.. I'm trying to form an opinion, erm, the game is good, yes definitely a very good RPG. Graphics indeed a bit sucky, but that is not the most important aspect of an RPG. Yes, I liked the game very much, played it for a long time, though cannot reach the levels of Fallout of Baldurs Gate.

An Everywheres' Nowhere has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from An Everywheres' Nowhere)

Aerothorn has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Aerothorn)

Most underrated RPG ever.

MoonDragon has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from MoonDragon)

A good play for any serious RPGer and a fan of Fallout series. But don't expect great improvement. The graphics were as bad if not worse than fallout (even though many years separate the two). The story was interesting if somewhat prolonged. At times it felt as if it is beating a dead horse. Freedom was nice, but not plentiful. Repetitive and annoying beginning of the game seriously removes the will and desire for replaying. Serious software development quality control issues (no show stoppers, but plenty of small annoying bugs).

txiabxyooj has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from txiabxyooj)

the graphics are weak, the gameplay at best is dull. also, the combat system offers nothing new & after a few hours of play becomes all too old. finally, the story line drags on & on. the concept behind the game is refreshing, but didn't pan out.

chrisbeddoes has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from chrisbeddoes)

This game is the best single player RPG ever made.

Elliot Ocasio has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Elliot Ocasio)

Very rich game, with many places to explore and a grand story arch that will take you plenty of tim to complete. The open-ended gameplay is really great. Classles system allows dozens of completely different characters. You'll find something new everytime you start a new character. A bargain at today's prices. A+

John Olivas has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from John Olivas)

This game is simply fantastic, good soundtrack, involving storyline and terrific amount of freedom. It only suffers from it's slightly simplistic graphics but if you get involved with it you really won't care. A unique world. Replay value up the wazoo, and a world creater to ensure that you're playing long after the main storyline is thru. Fallout-like dailog a definite plus, and you'll never find yourself forced to do any simple "kill this" "bring this here" missions. Definite fun for anyone who likes cerebral gameplay, while still offering the traditional point and kill interface of hack and slashers like diablo. Finally my favorite feature, Tired of powerful mages killing your entire party with firebolts in other games? Not a problem here. Simply produce your trusty elephant gun and evicicate your foes and any troublesome mages with un-paralleled efficency! Stupendeous! From the people who brought you Fallout and Baulder's Gate.

Ravnmyst has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Ravnmyst)

This is a great game, with a lot of re-playability.

Andy Logan has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Andy Logan)

This single player game has excellent replayability. There are so many character options, and the story accommodates the choices the player makes. Ex. if you play a dispicable character, the plot line allows for this, and has an alternative resolution to the quests. There is no one 'path' to fulfilling the main plot line.

Jade has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jade)

even better than Fallout

branwyn has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from branwyn)

liked the end...the way you saw the effects of the many choices you made throughout the game. (And there were lots of choices to make...)

Lini has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lini)

Game is excellent! Not for the slash-and-hack gamers who like brainless entertainment (Diablo, anyone?) Tons of replay value, and fairly cerebral; I'd noticed that those who don't care for the game prefer games where they can kill everything in sight, or don't have the patience for the plot (because they like to finish ASAP). Wonderful game for those who like RPG's.

The Hated Elf has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from The Hated Elf)

Arcanum has so many possibilities that it will take you more than a year to complete in each different way, but the major things is magick/tech/(neither) and Good/Evil. The only thing I find the game is lacking is the graphics.

Mikal has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Mikal)

Hedley Lamaar has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Hedley Lamaar)

Great game IMO. The interface was a tad clunky at first but you can get used to it. Nice quests and a pretty good sized world to explore. I found it a tad buggy though, for some reason, combat kept switching to free for all of it's own accord. But all in all, has a good replay factor and the learning curve isn't too bad.

Shadygrove has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Shadygrove)

This is the only RPG that has ever got me hoked. I usualy go for stratigy & grand stratigy games, but many things about this game realy resonate with me. You are not stuck playing Link, but anyone you can immagine. Favorite things, the classless advance system, the Victorian steampunk setting & the magnifacant nonlinarity. You want to be a thief? You don't pick a thief & there you are, but if you steal enough things, they just might let you into the guild. BTW, the patches available cure most of the gripes I have read in other reviews here.

RGE has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from RGE)

Arcanum's got it where it counts - in the character creation system, the dialogue, the side quests and the main quest. All that, and guns too! Now, if I actually manage to make a module worth playing I'd give it a 10.

Man named Thursday has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Man named Thursday)

Since I liked Fallout, it is a given that I Arcanum should be as good if not better. A lot of replay value, and overall ambience of non-linear gameplay makes it better than other RPGs.

Dan has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Dan)

Probably the most openeded game as far as char development goes, the story is top notch, and the replay value is amazingly high. Coupled with the handful of people out there who are working on mods to it still, I can see why I still play it now, ages after release.

a fun game but lost its touch and my desire in the very end

Gig has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Gig)

This great game had potential for tedium but, overall, one of the most open ended of RPGs. Your choices influenced the end of the game, which was a terrific touch. The only serious problem with Arcanum was the level cap, which was far too easy to reach, much too early in the game.

Jacko has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jacko)

Good story and very novel character development as well as theme story. Terrible voice acting and abysmal flat graphics. (See the early Bioware D&D games for 2-D RPGs done right.) Very underrated RPG though, I'll be interested to see what the sequel brings.

monkey/tannhäuser has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from monkey/tannhäuser)

Daniel Ban has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Daniel Ban)

Arcanum is an almost-classic, a game with some truly great elements and some so-so elements. The combat system is the weakest point: it was poorly balanced and only occasionally fun. The character system also has some balance issues (like technology being pathetic) but I really liked the concept of magic vs tech emphasis. However, this game has one of the best backgrounds and settings of any game yet released, along with the strong FallOut style flexibility and a good quest system. I'd love to see more games set in this universe, with an upgraded graphics engine, character system, and combat system.

Paul has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Paul)

Zhen Dil Oloth has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Zhen Dil Oloth)

Although it had a lot of potential, this game ended up being very dissapointing. The freedom of this game was as great as Fallout, but there are so many annoying bugs and design flaws that it is very difficult to enjoy the game when you keep on fighting the zillion bugs in it. Also the characters are poorly balanced. Magic is very powerfull as opposed to technologie being very weak. This could have been a great game, but it endde up being a great dissapointment.

wsutton2 has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from wsutton2)

My least favorite rpg of the past 5 years. Way too buggy initially. Combat and gameplay balance were also weak points.

Saint_Proverbius has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Saint_Proverbius)

I agree that arcanum has flaws, mainly stemming from the character system itself which every living thing in the game uses. However, the uniqueness of the setting, the dialogue use, the freedom, and so on really make this RPG better than nearly every other one released in the last few years. How many games let you join the bad guy?

Made by some of the same fine folks who brought us Fallout. I had some serious performance issues with this game, but it was so damn good that I plodded through anyway. Lots of great sub-plots and the freedom to play the game the way you want make this one a classic.

This game could have been so much better. Character generation, skills, and role-playing elements were superb. Too bad the world of Arcanum wasn't very interesting. I almost lost interest until things began to pick up in the second half. Good game, if you have patience.

EZ has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from EZ)

gecimen has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from gecimen)

Great atmosphere in some cities.. Average in others. This game is very parallel to fallout but with new rules and chr developement. The bad thing is, chr developement is far too slow than fallout, this makes the game boring for diablo fans. I just loved the enourmous size of the game. I would normally give 9 but i see it's underrated so i give it 10.

Björn Lundin has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Björn Lundin)

Interesting setting combined with a good story and an interactive game world should make for a great roleplaying game, but unfortunately Arcanum suffers from lackluster combat and a character system with some serious balance problems. The villain is also absent from the game plot to the point that the plot twist at the end barely made shrug.

Fantastic game, poor graphics (but functional none the less), nice music that suits the games theme throughout, alot of things to do with a huge world to explore (i was kinda taken back when i entered one of the main cities of the game 'tarant' and thought wow this is the largest city in a game ive played) gameplay is great, espeically for RPG lovers although the combat will put some people of (but at least tehre are two options, turn based or real time) and good character development to add to the mix. definitely in my top 10 games list

Not as good as the Fallout games, but still shining and wonderful. The setting is great. However, there is a tad too much combat, and the early appearance of Tarant spoils the other cities and towns for you. This game deserves a sequel.

Well Arcanum should be given a lot of credit as it is by far one of the most riveting games out there. Not only does it have decent graphics (for its time, lets say better then Diablo 2) but it also has a killer story line with excellent game play to go with it. I have had a lot of fun with this game and recommend it to any one who likes fantasy RPG

The premise has had almost enough oomph to lift this one to greatness, but not quite. Arcanum is marred from poorly balanced skill system (technologist just can't compete against magic-user). The production is also low, which is rather surprising. It took some doing to make Arcanum look WORSE than Fallout which predate the former by more than 3 years.

Great idea for a game and technically well executed, but missing some spark. The level cap was really annoying.

Great game again from the Fallout Team, but can't help it Fallout 2 was still the best, I bored a bit too much on Arcanum but still it offers a great diversity. perhaps I chosed the wrong character, I should perhaps try another one that could offer me more fun.

arcanum brings a rpg in a victorian time where one can construct weapons, armor, grenades and tools for personel use. To bad it suffers from the occasional bug. It is also too long. If it where more compact and focused, it would have sold better.

Other than Fallout (1&2) the only RPG worthy of the title of Literature. It deals with urbanization, racism, egoism, isolationism, identity, religion, athesiasm, deification in a way that ought to etch itself into the fabric of the American Psyche; I can only imagine if this game was remaid with a 3D engine. The world Arcanum was so vast and unpredictable. I wish it really was me who was on that Zepplin

One of the best stories I've ever seen. Good atmosphere, nice grapics. Fights were only ok, because you can only contol your starting character and the joining NPCs were depending on their class not always helpful.
