Haden "Shug_Ninx" Blackman, Lucas Arts Producer, has posted the following interesting info to the Star Wars: Galaxies forums today:
1) A fan asked whether there would be Podracing (from Episode 1) included with SWG:
Shug_Ninx:
I don't recall ever saying that Podracing would be "banned..." I don't want to paint us into any corners.
According to some sources, Podracing *has* been largely outlawed during this time period, but there are also illegal swoop races and many other "illegal" events that galactic citizens still participate in...
At any rate, Podracing is something we'd like to include somewhere down the road, but I wouldn't expect it to make the initial launch product. It's basically an entire game in and of itself (see LucasArts' Racer!).
2) Why Jawas haven't become a playable race:
Shug_Ninx:
If you can dig up my original post about how we chose our species, you'll read that one of the criteria involved being able to travel between planets. With very few EU exceptions, we've never really seen Jawas away from Tatooine, so it would be disconcerting to see large numbers of them on other worlds.
Also, we simply couldn't make every species playable. We selected eight becuase that was an achievable number that still offered great variety.
None of this prevents us from including Jawas as playable later, though, if the demand is there.
