This is one of the the few sequels that manage to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the original...
Both system shock 1 and 2 manage to create a beautiful , imerssive game world with a certain "doom" atmosphere ,( for example - the character you just came to save , was killed two minutes before you came.. causing you to get frustrated - but in a good way - now you you also want to avange him/her ).
this game is still not perfrect , and i am very reluctant to give any game a 10/10..
but if you have the money - go buy it now , you won't be sorry |

Though not your typical RPG (more like a skill-based FPS), System Shock 2 scared the poop out of me when I first started playing. And, it still gives me the willies.
Replay value is immense as, each time from the beginning, you can choose a completely different career and progression of skills, albiet through the same game and sequence of events, but for a new "feel" and challenge.
Highly recommend, but put the kiddies to bed first or you'll spend more time dealing with their nightmares than playing.
(Note: "Event Horizon", a Lawrence Fishburn movie, is along the same lines of creepiness and setting. If you dig the movie, play SS2.) |

One of the best games I have played... and I am not a FPS fan at all. This game gave me hope that other genres could work in the 3D realm not just pure shooters. The game is also not a pure RPG, but it is fairly open-ended, has a cool storyline with twists and all, and perhaps the best atmosphere that I have experienced. Genuine fear and solitude oozed from my screen. |

I wouldn't say this is *the* best game I've ever played, but it's certainly among them. Calling it an RPG is dubious, but it's hard to call it anything else justifiably.
Regardless, it's definitely the single *scariest* game I've ever played, well above the Resident Evil series, and significantly more so than Alien vs Predator, which would be the next. The level design is brilliant - it really feels as though you're in a real place, rather than a collection of corridors for a change, and the plot is pretty clever, as games go. |

Sadly, the original was far better.
Weird respawning and the AWFUL "pain in the arse" final alien level ruined this promising title. Still worth a look, though. You won't find a game more creepy than this one, especially because of the tremendous sound effects/music. |

Great game, but not near as good as the first part. It could have been one of the greatest games ever, but I think it failed a little in the level design department - I just never felt like I was really on a spaceship, the thing felt more like a futuristic maze. I remember searching for hours for some stupid quest item, until finding it in a place I had already passed three times before. |

Very well done, also has a killer multiplayer co-op mode that is very fun over your home lan...only reason I gave it 9 instead of 10 is this loading bug in the multiplayer mode that corrupted my savegames...still one of my favorites |

System Shock II is an incredible game. The folks at Looking Glass have once again given us a game that is revolutionary, deep and innovative. A worthy sequel to the original System Shock, System Shock II is the only game I have played that I literally could not tear myself away from. Recommended without reservation! |

Another style of roleplaying game. The story with shodans mutants goes further. The roleplaying elements are mixed with shooter & tactics. A very challenging game, not for fantasy fans but for hardcore players looking for new (old) science fiction. |

This game had me on the edge of my seat each of the many times I played through it. It's a lot scarier than Resident Evil (especially with the new high detail models), a better RPG than Deus Ex, and the plot is dreadfully gripping. I'm not saying it's the best, but as a whole it is more terrifying, enthralling and interesting than just about anything on the market at the moment. |

System Shock 2 is the scariest game I've ever played in my entire life. I'm not kidding, it practically made me crap my pants. But if you put that nasty image aside, you'll find that this is also a quite successful attempt at combining the FPS and RPG genres in one game. To me, it's combat isn't that good, but since the RPG elements are excellent it works anyhow. It's claustrophobic, atmospheric, difficult and gripping. If you can still find it somewhere, I suggest you get hold of it. It should have come bundled with a pair of clean underwear though. |

System Shock 2 is another masterpiece to me. It got a well exploited story, strong replay value, insane atmosphere. Well it got all to seduces.
I think SS2 is one of the 10 best games ever, aside with the following games, whitch I suggest strongly: Ultima Underworld, Arx Fatalis (UW3), Deus Ex (1&2), Legacy of Kain (Blood Omen), Morrowind. See also Doom 3, Gauntlet 2, Ishar 3, Land of Lore for other enjoyable games.
