1) The Star Wars: Galaxies FAQ has been updated with a question and an answer on the military:3.39 Will I be able to join the military?
There will be military ranks for each faction, which you can ascend based on your performance in the military skill tree and other related skill trees. You will have to invest skill points into the military skill tree. Different species will have different advancement requirements in the different militaries--for example, Wookiees and Mon Calamari will have to work harder to advance in the Imperial military. As you gain ranks you get certain perks, such as the ability to give orders to lower-ranking military members.
There are more additions from recent forum issues inside. Go check them out if you want to find out about:
- 1.17 Will you place a cap on the number of characters a single server can support?
- 6.39 What will prevent player-building from overrunning a planet, turning a forest moon into something like Coruscant, for example?
- 6.40 Am I going to be confined to the "Newbie Hall" area for a certain time before I'm allowed out into the rest of the game world?
2) Kevin "Q-3PO" O'Hara has answered to a fan's question concerning the whereabouts of the long promised SWG Quicktime movie:
The editing of the QuickTime E3 movie is finished. It is now having the sound professionally applied and we're gathering up the necessary "bumps" (Company logos, ESRB rating pending info, legals, etc.). Meanwhile we're setting up the deals that are necessary to host the movie on our site. Lots of people will likely download. We don't want it on the regular Station servers or the EverQuest people might be a bit upset when their patch servers are overloaded :) . The only thing after that is final sign-off from the departments. I'm expecting it to be in your hands early next month, if not before then.
The progress of the movie release doesn't reflect that of the game release. We all know how bad this industry is on keeping their deadlines. In our case, it is extremely important that we meet our second half of 2002 deadline and do so with a solid product. The E3 movie is not bound by the same ramifications for running late. I do apologize for us not making the original date for the movie though.
