An interview with Jeff Vogel from Spiderwebsoftware at Evil Avatar deals with the shareware games his company produces, Geneforge being one (and a very good one) of them. Here's a snip:
    How long does the creation of a game take (from the first idea to the final code)?

    JV: I usually mull a game in my head for about 6 months (1 year for Geneforge). And all new game and engine takes about a year. New games using that engine take about 9 months. Porting from Mac to Windows is another month.
