Bug List

Very Wierd Stuff

-KyleEChu's State of the Roach
KyleEChu was so gracious to send along his notes he took while playing the game. A lot of these bugs might happen on a per person basis, and a number of them could be gone in future patches. But nonetheless, they are here for your browsing. I normally don't like to post a lot of bug info. But he did a good job. So what the hell? Here they are, in raw, unedited form.

Shamino Plot Killer - This has happened to me every single time Iplayed through the game. Not only does Shamino refuse to speak to me through the various statues, but he refuses to speak at all after Malchir's ghost disappears. This effectively prevents you from entering the Isle of the Avatar, and you have to cheat or cast Teleport to get in.

Minoc Campfire - Shooting Blackthorn with anything will cause a prompt crash.

A really strange bug - This still works in v. 1.07. Go to just about any dock and start breaking the crates and barrels. You don't even have to strike a barrel, just swing at certain specific points in the air. You will see that your weapon seems to be striking something, and will produce the impact sound effect, impact mark, and stream of blood. I have no idea what might cause this bug, but it's still interesting.

Spell Binding - This serves as a warning to people who habitually use the resource reclamation cheat when binding spells. If you attempt to touch or drag the reagents or scroll while they are being vaporized, the game crashes.

Drowning in Oxygen - If you jump off the ship and then go swimming in deep waters, then try to re-board the ship while you are drowning, you will still drown. The game thinks you are still immersed in the deep water, and you appear to be swimming on deck! A way to avoid this is to very quickly click on the ship, then hit Esc.

Dungeon Wrong - Kill the guard who is standing behind the desk. When he dies, watch him dance!

Covetous Mines
- The elevator is still very buggy. The Avatar will "skip" in place while the elevator is slowing down upon reaching the next floor.

- Sometimes the elevator buttons do not register as "button" when you move the cursor over them and try to click them.

- There is no way to call the elevator to your floor if you are on a different floor.

- There is no easy way to climb out if you fall underneath the elevator on level 4 of Covetous.

- Sometimes, if you place items on the elevator, they will adhere to that point in space (x,y,z). When the elevator starts moving down, the items will seem to float upwards. This causes them to jam the elevator until you pick them back up.

- Jumping while on the elevator causes speed and gravity problems.

- If you fall off the front of the elevator while it is descending, it will push you out of the level design.

- On level 2, when you push the mine cart down the hill to smash the boarded-up passageway, the cart slides into the wall and clips into the floor.

- There is a second mine cart on level 2 that you can ride to cross the
chasm. If you fall into the chasm, you will not die, but there is no way out of the chasm except by cheating.

- Jumping at any time while on the same cart will cause the cart to move
upwards. This pushes you out of the level design, forcing you to reload.

- On level 4, there is an underwater passageway leading from the column room to the main flooded chamber. Swimming in this passageway causes you to fall out of the level design.

The Abyss - Putting down the elemental globes too fast will completely prevent the portals to the planes from appearing.

In dungeons Despise and Shame, there is a timed loss of karma. If you take too long to finish the dungeon, you will lose karma.

DUNGEON TIPS SECTION:
Dungeon Despise - When you exit the dungeon, jump out the entrance. You will be able to completely bypass the movie of Raven and BT. Apparently Origin made a "trigger block" for the movie and stuck it on the ground, allowing you to jump over it.

Destard - Using the Wizard Eye trick (from your tips section), you can simply walk right through Talornia's magic field at the start of the dungeon. This allows you to, of course, kill her early on and take her head. Of course, you will miss out on a karma point and the 5th egg fragment, but who cares?

The Abyss - There are so many things you can do to screw up the sequence when LB duels BT. At first I tried cheating to fly around the trigger area for the sequence. This works, but there are a couple of ways to do this without cheating. The first is to jump past the last light-source. The sequence will start as normal, but you have about 5 seconds to rush in and hit Blackthorn.

The second way is to quite simply cast Teleport so that you land in the middle of the battlefield. The sequence won't even start! Talking to LB at this point yields some nonsense about consulting the Codex. As for Blackthorn, he's a mute. You can beat on him until doomsday, and he won't go down. I used the Master technique for 1-handed weapons to shove Blackthorn into the lava pit, and he didn't even flinch. If you start the sequence after hitting BT in any way, he will walk right up to LB during the duel. Even though LB's spells aren't even hitting him, Blackthorn finds out that he has a new special ability to spontaneously drop dead. A final warning about using this trick: never cast Charm, Freeze, Time Stop, or any other duration spell that affects a single target, on Blackthorn. If you do, and you start the sequence, the game will promptly crash.

-Gold Limits (Submitted by MageMichael)
I've done a lot of testing on this and it appears to be consistent. If you try and collect gold that when added to your current total will break the 20,000 mark, you crash to the desktop. This appears to be consistent anywhere in the realm as I've tried it in Trinsic, Britain, Valoria and Destard all with the same results. If your close to 20,000 gold, go support the economy before doing much more exploring!

-Out of Body Experience (Submitted by Arcana Dragon)

"I was showing off U9 to one of my friends, when this happened:

At the bridge before Wrong I was frozen by an orc warlock (sargeant, whatever), and my soul stepped out of my body! (in the game, i mean) - I had control of a "ghost" Avatar, and the monsters weren't the least interested when I was near. Then I tried the theory of matter/anti-matter and walked my ghost-avatar into the frozen Avatar.

Pling - back to the desktop!

Even though my friend is NOT into computergames at all, he nearly wet his pants! :-)
Just thought I'd share this extra bug, hehe... :-)"

-Raven & Ghosts (Submitted by Luis Fernandez)
After I freed Shamino, Malchir appeared and told me how to summon pyros. Then he started to fade away. As he was fading away I clicked on him to see if he would talk some more. He did but he just repeated the exact same sequence he did before. What was weird was that whenever he was speaking I was seeing him in a different location. He appeared to be outside the 'temple' where the other ghosts were. But the weirdest part was that he appeared to be talking to a ghostly Raven. She was wearing the sexy outfit she wore when she branded me. There was someone else there with her, I think. If there was I am pretty sure it was a man but I don't remember who it was.

I have founds that if you climb the mountains behind the entrance to the well of souls while in the spirit realm to can actually go to place Luis Fernandez spoke of seeing Raven and other ghosts. It is a flat plane of grass or something. There are also two levers in the ground in the plane. When you come upon the party of ghosts there are actually a couple of living NPCs as well. you can talk to only a couple, one a drunken sailor the other is the man you free in Destard. the only ghost you can talk to is Malchir, you repeat the conversation that you had with him earlier. I also found a queen egg, I'm not sure if this is unique to my game or not. As far as I can tell there is nothing of use there.

Quest Breakers

-Blackrock Sword
In Trinsic, the blacksmith doesn't recognize that you have 3 pieces, so he won't make you a blackrock sword.

-Perma Potion Effects
Drink and Inviso or Invulerability potion, save, reload. The effect is permanent until you drink another.

-Random Crashes to the desktop.
This has a lot to do with low memory systems.
Windows 98 Swaps memory in and out of a file on your [C:\] drive. Make sure you have a good 200 megs or more free on that drive. You might have to delete some programs temporarly until you finish the game. The single most important thing to do to improve stability, is to increase your Windows swap file size to reduce low-memory situations.

-Falling into an Abyss.
Happens in Blackthorn's Prison after leaving you cell on the way to the lava areas. In Despise near the alchemy table. Happens in Buc's Den cave with the password face.

-Vasagralem and the egg.
Talking to Vasagralem in Yew before you have the egg will break your quest. You will have to reload before hand. Or talking to him in his treehouse, and jumping off the tree without using the lift, before you go to the courthouse. Will break the lift.

-New Magencia
Killing either the Alpha Wolf or the Vultures nest, but not both, before you head Hythloth will break your quest. You must either kill them both before you leave or kill them when you get back.

-Binding Telekenisis
You need to add mandrake root to the spell. There is a type on the manuals.

-Quill of Justice.
The Vulture will ignore you untill you speak to Vasagralem first.

-Sarah.
Sarah sometimes doesn't tell you the mantra of Compassion.

-New Magencia.
Killing the Alpha Wolf or the Vulture, but not both... then entering Hythloth will break your quest. You will have to reload a save before then.

-Flying boat in Moonglow.
Sometimes it gets stuck in the air.

-Blackrock Sword
The smith in Trinsic doesn't see how many Blackrock fragments you have. You can't get the sword.

Game Crashers and Irritants

-Inventory (Beltpack) Crashes.
Sometimes dragging an item below the beltpack, to the edge of the viewable screen causes a crash.

-Spell Binding

"also, the game crashes that occur when you ignite candles on binding circles, happens because of a glitch with the reagents, not the candles. must be sure that you're using A-1 reagents else it'll crash every time. point and case is the nightshade i picked up from Hyloth, crashed every time trying to bind summon reagents, so i checked it out. yea yeap.. check your reagents first, save before bind, if you crash get a new source."

-Richard McIntyre

-Item loss.
When you drag an item onto your body or backpack. the item is lost forever. Always save your game before grabbing something really nice.

-Swimming.
Simply brushing anything will keep the Avatar from moving in the water.

-Decreased performance.
Due to memory leaks. Reboot and reload.

-Soundblaster Live crashes.
Computer locks up every 10-15 minutes. Try turning off EAX in the U9 config utility. Actually, turning off EAX will reduce crashes and speed the game up a bit for EVERYONE!

-Collis.log in the root directory.
It's a debug file left in during development. It was used to find a problem with Margery (The sweeping woman in Britain).

-Reagents.
Stacked reagents, eg... garlic(3) will be used up as one.

-Movies.
Movie sequences cannot be seen.

-Tunnel in Buc's Den.
Sometimes the tunnel will block of sections and you might fall into the abyss.

-Conversations.
Sometimes multiple choice text replies do not appear.
Take a guess and use the 1,2,3 keys.

-Error:"pixel format invalid as specified."
Try changing your Win98 desktop display settings to 640x480 and 16bit color.

-Getting stuck in walls or doors.
Try going in and out of combat mode or opening and closing bags.

-Game crashing on save during startup.
Delete the start.dat in the U9 folder. Play through the begining of the game and grab your journal. Loa the game from there.

-Raven in Wrong.
Freeing Raven in Wrong is a bug-fest!

-Excessive hard disk usage.
Adjust your Virtual Memory (swap file) setting to twice the amount of ram you have.

-Igniting candles.
Sometimes igniting candles at a binding circle will crash the game.
