RPGDot Game Rating Machine

markus has rated the following games:

Baldur's Gate: 9/10 points

If not the best CRPG to date, it certainly was one of the most important ones. Extremely long in scope. Better than its sequel in terms of role-playing in that it intentionally curbed out-of-control levelling and powergaming.

Baldur's Gate - Tales of the Sword Coast: 8/10 points

New areas were well executed with above average storylines. Made a great game even greater.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 9/10 points

In many ways this game improved on the original, but despite all the advances and epic storyline, I enjoyed many aspects of the original (that others probably found tedious) such as wandering randomly around the countryside. The sequel also allowed its storyline to get out of control and simultaneously introduced too many powerful skills and items. This game could have been dragged across two more sequels with each sequel advancing the character only ten levels or less at a time.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal: 9/10 points

Deus Ex: 9/10 points

Similar to System Shock 2 on many levels, but with a less intense atmosphere. Storyline is linear, but there are over a dozen levels. Each one can be approached in a number of different ways, and they take a long, long time to finish. Great value.

Diablo: 7/10 points

Not an RPG. Still fun, but I only played through once. Diablo 2 slightly better.

Diablo 2: 8/10 points

Slight improvement on the original. Still not an RPG but a fun game to play.

Diablo 2 - Lord of Destruction: 9/10 points

Introduced only one new area, but the classes, items, etc. really increased my interest in Diablo 2. Not a true RPG but very enjoyable to play with your friends.

Eye of the Beholder: 8/10 points

My favorite dungeon crawl to date.

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 10/10 points

A cool CRPG. Perhaps a bit too short, if anything. Great characters and encounters. Could have used a bit more variety at times.

Fallout 2: 9/10 points

very imersive

Fallout 2: 7/10 points

Interesting follow-up to the original. Did not really improve on the engine much (although it initially had a host of bugs). The character creation system is still probably the best one around, and I was glad to see it used to perfection in Fallout Tactics (a game riddled with problems of its own).

Final Fantasy VII: 6/10 points

Not a true CRPG... too linear... interesting story and cinematics... cheesy at times.

Icewind Dale: 9/10 points

Surprise RPG hit. I love creating and playing an entire party of characters. Fantastic artwork and score. Only drawback is the linear storyline. But at least it is a good story.

Icewind Dale - Heart of Winter: 7/10 points

Slightly disappointing expansion in that it introduced only a few additional hours of playing time. However, it did enhance replaying the game from the very beginning.

Illarion: 10/10 points

no comment

Jagged Alliance 2: 9/10 points

Not your traditional CRPG... but easily one of the most fun ones. Great characters and dialogue. For the most part I enjoy the meticulous micromanagement of this game, but one too many random encounters that last an hour each was probably could really get to you at time.

Might & Magic 6 - The Mandate of Heaven: 8/10 points

My favorite first perspective CRPG... unfortunately it became dated fairly quickly. But I really enjoyed playing through it at the time.

Planescape: Torment: 6/10 points

I was not as big a fan of this game as most. Perhaps I thought that the setting was a bit weird... but in the end it had more to do with how poorly I developed my character.

System Shock: 10/10 points

One of the best games I have played... and I am not a FPS fan at all. This game gave me hope that other genres could work in the 3D realm not just pure shooters. The game is also not a pure RPG, but it is fairly open-ended, has a cool storyline with twists and all, and perhaps the best atmosphere that I have experienced. Genuine fear and solitude oozed from my screen.

Ultima 4 - Quest of the Avatar: 9/10 points

One of my favorite games of the 80s. This probably hooked me into CRPGs for good.
